Matrix Screensaver For Mac Mojave

  • Might anyone please suggest a Screen Saver (not desktop) that wouldallow me to use a photos file I created, AND to also select a switchingspeed between the photos? I know there is a Terminal hack, but I don't feel confident playingwith it. The present Screen Saver options on my iMac (Mojave) switch waytoo fast to enjoy the photos.
  • Matrix Mania A screensaver based on the 'digital rain' appearing on computer screens in the popular The Matrix film trilogy, created by The Wachowski Brothers and starring Keanu Reeves as Neo.
  • Mojave's screen recorder doesn't allow you to capture the Mac's audio but here we're using Loopback to present Safari as a new audio source like a microphone Concentrate on video When it's done.

A screensaver based on the 'digital rain' appearing on computer screens in the popular The Matrix film trilogy, created by The Wachowski Brothers and starring Keanu Reeves as Neo. The speed, density, balance, noise and inversion of the characters in this 'rain' effect can be adjusted, and you can optionally even change the default green hues to any other colors.

Mojave seems to be especially 'bad' in this regard, and I expect it to break a relatively large number of screensavers found on this site. As for Matrix Mania, the last version of macOS it officially supports is Snow Leopard (10.6), so I'm actually surprised it has worked with all versions up to Mojave. How do I adjust the display duration of images used in the Mojave screensaver? Font WAY to SMALL :(

by Terry on August 8, 2020

Good screensaver but somehow the animation is very slow on my MacBook. The OS is Catalina. How can I fix it?

by Vladyslav on March 19, 2020

I agree with Damien, the font is super small. Weird that you can adjust everything except the font size. I'm reluctant to actually purchase it without knowing whether I can increase the font. The last one I had (RedPill) was brilliant and I really loved it, but it won't work with Catalina : (

I'd give this 5 starts if it was possible to adjust the font size.

Been using this a while and love it. I noticed it stopped working on Mojave so disabled it and wasn't aware until now that it had been fixed. Just updated and it is working for me on Catalina. Although, I'm not sure if it's a bug, but the rain looks so small. I'm sure it's a lot smaller than before. Unless you look very close, it now just looks like green lines almost. Anyone else? Please could this be looked at?

by Damien on December 4, 2019

Fine but doesn't work any more on Catelina. Please provide an update.

by Jos on October 9, 2019

Yes I have the same problem. It would be nice to have it on Mojave

Matrix Screensaver For Mac Mojave Os

by marshall on October 9, 2018

Wasn't supported after Snow Leopard but managed to still work for whatever reason until Mojave came along. So don't download until developer says otherwise... =/

by Not compatible with Mojave on October 8, 2018

It only plays for a few seconds then shows a 'PURCHASE REGISTRATION' mark instead. MatrixGL is free and has the option to create 3D images from the characters (or not) as well as change the color, et cetera.

this is great though can it just be left at the code going down not the popup text and water marks

Arabesque has been shipped with macOS for quite awhile now, making it one of graphical default screensavers. What Apple seems to dismiss, however, is that they did not update their lines of screensavers since High Sierra.

In case you are wondering if this issue is affecting your Mac, there is a simple way to figure it out. If the screensaver stutters or becomes jerky, your computer is affected. If the fans of your workstation runs wild while running screensaver, there is a good chance this topic is also for you.

Before you can simply follow the link, do test out your Arabesque screensaver in preview for about 2 minutes. Since Mojave, I am yet to see any issues with Apple-shipped screensavers. In other words, this fix will only work —and macOS stops it from running— if you are running High Sierra, macOS 10.13.

  1. Download ArabesqueX screensaver via this link. If the original link is no longer valid, please download it through here and unpack the zip file.
  2. Copy the qtz file to the following path: /Library/Screen Savers/
  3. Change the screensaver to ArabesqueX in System Preferences.

There was a reddit thread, about a year ago, discussing the fix for jerky Arabesque. Bear in mind, OP has an interesting theory as to how Arabesque came to be. I will not go into details. But as seen in the case of eGPUs, there are many ways to drop the balls for planned obsolescence, only way to find out is to observe for the extended period of time.

Planned obsolescence is a word thrown around so easily. I would argue lightning port has stronger evidences supporting Apple’s tactics, rather than a simple screensaver then can be fixed by one person, especially on a Mac. To give OP some credits, TB 1/2 obsolescences on eGPUs took a community of users to even kickstart a fix.
