Dark Messiah of Might and Magic; Heroes of Might and Magic II; Heroes of Might and Magic III; Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade. Some No-CD/Fixed EXE files work fine in Single Player mode but are detected to be modified when trying to play online. When this happens use the original EXE to play online, else you could find. I have all the versions of Heroes IV - Heroes IV, The Gathering Storm and Winds of War, so I know I need the US patches. Some questions: Do I need to install each successive patch, e.g. First Heroes 4 ver 1.0 to 1.3 Std. US, then Heroes 4 ver 1.3 to 2.0 Std. US, thru Heroes 4 ver 2.2 to 3.0 Std.

NO-CD
The No-CD crack requires only a single byte to be changed in the executable.
Instructions
1) Open the file in a HEX editor.
2) Search for the following string: “31 C0 EB 05 B8 02 00 00”
The string should be found only once in the executable.
The expected starting offset for v2.0 is 0xF87B4
The expected starting offset for v2.1 is 0xFA1FC
3) Change the string to “31 C0 EB 05 B8 00 00 00”
(effectively changing the 5th byte from 02 to 00)
Offset summary
v2.0 : 0xF87B9: 02 → 00
v2.1 : 0XFA201: 02 → 00
Note that you can still play CD audio, if you do have the CD in the drive,
even with the no-CD crack. Selecting CD Audio without the CD in the drive
will not crash, but just have no music. MIDI music works in both cases.

The above change allows you to skip the CD check, but you still must have the movie files (ANIM directory) on your local drive, otherwise the game will try to play them, fail and exit.
An additional workaround exists that allows you to run the game without the movie files. For example if you have an old system with very little disk space (the movies are about 170MB in total).
Instructions
You will need to change a sequence of three bytes:
v2.0 : 0xE70AE: BB 80 00 → E9 F6 0A
v2.1 : 0xE8ACE: BB 80 00 → E9 F6 04
The game will now work just fine even if the movie files are unavailable. Mac os x pages highlight text. It will simply skip all the cutscenes. However, if the movie files are present, the cutscenes will work just fine.

Choosing sides in the original campaign without cutscenes
In the original (Succession Wars) campaign you get to select sides, choosing either good (Roland) or evil (Archibald), before starting the first mission. Normally, a cutscene plays and at the end you need to click with your mouseeither on the left side of the screen (Archibald) or right side (Roland). If the cutscenes are skipped, you will not get the opportunity to click. However, the game registers your choice based on which side of the screen the mouse cursor is. So to select your side, you need to move the cursor really fast to either side, immediately after pressing the “Original Campaign” button. Alternatively, just place the cursor on the side of your choice, and use the keyboard to choose the “original campaign” button (by pressing ‘O’).
