About the game

In Papers, Please we play as an employee in the Ministry of Immigration, and we are the ones in charge of deciding who gets in and who doesn't. Yes, we are a simple government agent, our job is to place a stamp on the documents of these people, allowing them to get in, or getting them out of our country.

Working 12 Hours a day, you'll have to ask some questions and verify that everything to judge who can get through and enter the country. Keep in mind that this will be getting tougher and tougher by the day and that you only get paid by the number of papers you stamp.

Your pay is minimal, so you'll have to be efficient in your job to guarantee an income for your household, but be careful of becoming corrupt, for there are serious consequences for thin behavior against the motherland.

Papers, Please is not a game for everybody, nor is it easy to recommend. But what it is is a very interesting experiment about the bureaucracy and corruption of these systems. And it places us in the place of the most normal of beings during a war, which is not something you see every day in gaming.

Papers Please is a puzzle video game in which the player will play the role of a border crossing immigration officer in a fictional like country of Arstotzka, which has been a political hostile country with its neighbor country. The game takes place at the border of fictional east and west berlin. As an immigration officer, you will review each and every citizen’s passport and supporting paperwork against ever-growing rules using tools and guides allowing only those people with proper paperwork and rejecting those with improper forms and those with falsified information. You will be awarded a proper salary in accordance with the number of forms proceeded correctly every day while you will also be fined for making mistakes. Your salary will provide you with shelter, food, and heat for your in-game family.

Papers Please deals with all the issues of immigration policy in an ever-changing environment. As an immigration officer in some cases, you also have to make moral decisions such as approving the entry of a pleading citizen despite the lack of proper paperwork knowing that this will affect their salary. The game features story mode and endless mode. The story mode features several events that will occur across the fictional country of Arstotzka, while the endless mode will allow you to process as many immigrants as possible.

The passport checking is the feature of a gameplay mechanic. The travels will witness the behavior of immigration officers through their international travels. Papers Please has been inspired by the spy thriller films having the immigration officer be one to challenge spies trying to move in or out of the countries with fake travel countries.
